We just got a request to provide a Modbus Ethernet connection. Anybody have a suggestion for a good serial to Ethernet converter for Modbus?

Omega Engineering has a product called iServer and software to talk to serial devices. I have used it rs232 to a data logger. It is supposed to comm rs485 and should talk to your modbus. I have plans to try modbus in the next few days. If I do it successfully I'll update.

Hi tangent65,
Thanks for the nice lead. Those look pretty good. What software are you using to communicate over the ethernet to the iServer?
Our customer is using Intellution iFIX which has a Modbus Ethernet driver so I'm just wondering if that will work with this product.

Hi tangent65,
Just got the iServer, plugged it in, did a little tweaking and it works great. Thanks for the tip.

I believe Lantronix have RTU units, but a quick Google search will give you lots of choices for serial to ethernet converter servers.

B&B Electronics ESP901 give the option of RS232/422/485 for about $125, or on ebay you can get the chinese made ones for less than $100.
