Yes I have been using a PCMCIA Card and Access point to connect to a D2-ECOM.

My setup has been a cross-over cable from the D2-ECOM to a D-Link DWL-1000AP Access Point. I chose the DWL-1000AP because it is small in size and supports a very wide range of protocols ( TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, NetBEUI ). A few Access Points only seem to support TCP/IP, but I also like having IPX/SPX since the ECOM's use it for some setup and discovery functions.

Originally, I was using the Linksys WPC11 PCMCIA card in my laptop, and it interoperated with the D-Link quite nicely, but ultimately went with a Lucent / Agere ORiNOCO Silver card because of slightly better performance, external antenna options and much more flexible software. This may seem like a small thing, but being able to quickly switch from one network configuration to another is very useful in a mobile environment.

My overall experience has been very positive, and absolutely enjoy not having to worry anymore about my laptop getting yanked to the ground by someone tripping over the comm cable.

In my application, I usually take the Access Point and ECOM with me, and don't leave it connected to the PLC, but if you do, remember that with a wireless system, security is a concern and you should do everything you can to limit the risk of your system being compromised.

Hi All,

Anyone doing wireless ethernet with the ecom

modules? I was wondering if the Linksys

'Access Point ' device would work with my

D2-Ecom modules?? I would like to be able to

connect the 'Access Point ' to the ecom module and use a wireless ethernet card on my pc and do monitoring, programming, hmi, etc.
