PLC to PC communications

Is it possible to talk to a DL205, DL260 cpu, H2-ECOM, with a PC using anything other than the DSData Server software, such as LabView or Excel, etc? I don't think I can get approval for the purchase of anymore software. Thanks, Craig in Plymouth, Mi. GO USA!

I have communicated with a DL240 by writing a custom BASIC application using the DirectNET protocal. This was a challenge and very tedious. When the customer wanted some additions to the system, the DSData used with Excel was well worth the cost. Automationdirect can provide the DirectNET protocol.

I have to agree with KPrice. The cost of DSData is small ($295) compared to how much time you will save in setting it up.

I'm using Labview to communicate to a 250 with Modbus protocol.
The advantage over DsData is that you can read/write blocks of data (V memory and discrete I/Os).

Ok, great suggestions. How about Lookout Direct? Will that communicate through the H2-ECOM to the PLC? I have Lookout, but didn't know if I could talk to the PLC through the ECOM. Anyone done this?

Lookout Direct most definitely will communicate to the PLC's through the ECOM. Pretty fast at that, as a matter of fact.

If you already have LookOut, you only need DirectLogic Plus (aka DLPlus), an add-on for LookOut customers to get it to talk to ADC PLCs without needing to purchase LookOut Direct product. Check out http://www.hosteng.com/SW-Products/Lookout/Lookout.htm

I am running a number of copies of LookoutDirect on a datalogging network using ethernet. I purchased Lookout6 in order to use its ' email and web functions. (And was surprised to find that it only had the DL serial drivers) Until I can get an ecom driver for LK6 I have connected a plc by means of an ecom module to the network and a serial link to the LK6 PC. While transferring V memory values between the PLCs using using LookoutDirect would be simple enough I thought I would ask about ways to transfer from plc to plc using ladder.
I am using DL205 plcs w/ DL250-1 CPUs.

The last version that DLPlus was formally tested with was version 4.5. We have been told by customers that it works with Version 5. We do not know if it works with Lookout 6.
