Hello All, Pat from South Carolina here. My sister gave me a Softub brand hot tub last year and a recent storm took out some of the controls - namely the keypad. So I 've priced the keypad and they want near $250 for the thing and then there is another board in there - so I said to myself - this thing would be a good project for a PLC if one could be had for lots less money. I 've had a lot of training on modicon - GE and some other plcs so I'm familiar with ladder logic - plus real world experience in motor controls from 60 year old overhead cranes and elevators. I remembers someone had some micro plc products before I retired but anyway I found this web site and the possibilities look good. Basically this softub runs like this: apply power - set point goes to 100degrees F if the water temp is lower than that the pump comes on. If any of you know about this hot tub the heat from the motor is all that is used to heat the water. the tub is 300 gallons. There is a heat exchanger (tubing)wrapped around the motor. The motor is 110VAC There must be a clock running because every 12 hours if the temp is correct - it will just run the pump (filter mode) for 20 minutes to stir up the water. the keypad has a set point display temp up and down buttons jets button- turns on pump for 20 minutes and turns off the pump motor light button - my first thought is to use something like the solo SL4824-RR and just control the temp for now and later look into maybe a click plc. Thanks for any input - I like my hot tub but that's a chunk of change to lay down every time a board goes out. Pat

Never mind
Son-n-law works for Eaton Corp and he has ordered me a Easy500 motor control. Looks like it has some ladder logic - and I/O that will work.
Thanks for looking,
Pat

Hello All,
Pat from South Carolina here.

this thing would be a good project for a PLC if one could be had for lots less money.
Basically this softub runs like this:
apply power - set point goes to 100degrees F
if the water temp is lower than that the pump comes on.
If any of you know about this hot tub the heat from the motor is all that is used to heat the water.
the tub is 300 gallons. There is a heat exchanger (tubing)wrapped around the motor.
The motor is 110VAC
There must be a clock running because every 12 hours if the temp is correct - it will just run the pump (filter mode) for 20 minutes to stir up the water.
the keypad has a set point display
temp up and down buttons
jets button- turns on pump for 20 minutes and turns off the pump motor
light button -
my first thought is to use something like the solo SL4824-RR and just control the temp for now
and later look into maybe a click plc.
Thanks for any input - I like my hot tub but that's a chunk of change to lay down every time a board goes out.
