Hey Guys, I'm designing a new manufacturing facility for the company I work for and am looking for some advice on GS2 vs GS3 drives, I really have no use for positioning feedback in my application but am wondering if there are any other benefits including communications? I read and compared the manuals and didn't see a lot of difference... I basically want to have my 450 control motor speed, and possibly get feedback from the vfd confirming the speed settings... I currently have a GS2 controlling a motor in my current setup, but have no way of knowing whether or not tat signal reached the vfd... any help on the subject would be greatly appreciated... thanks in advance Rubber Boy

As far as knowing if the "signal reached the VFD ", there are a couple of ways.
- connect digital & analog output signals from the VFD to the PLC for status.
- communicate via Modbus to the VFD for status.
- use sensors on machine for feedback.
I don't know all your requirements, but Modbus communication allows the most info from the VFD. The VFDs are limited in their hard-wired outputs.
As far as difference in communication, the GS3 only provides RS485, where the GS2 allows RS232 or RS485.
But do you also need a sensor to "confirm speed ". For example, the motor driving a gearbox to a belt-driven conveyor. The VFD will not be able to detect if the belt breaks. The small drop in amps may not be enough to indicate a broken belt.

Gs2
It appears that the GS2 has the ability to hook up into (GSR4858 part #) to allow the plc to hook up to multiple drives, is this setup what I need to get feedback from the drives?

Yes, you can use the GS-RS485-8 to setup your RS485 network - to allow the plc to hook up to multiple GS drives. The GS-RS485-8 will not be available when stock runs out. You can use the ZL-CDM-RJ12X10. Both the GS2 and GS3 drives can hook up into the ZL-CDM-RJ12X10.
