DS 5 on Vista - Doesn't like mouse

I'm running the latest update on DS5, on a Lenevo T61 (vista). The program doesn't seem to like it when I use the scroll functions of either the joystick mouse OR the touchpad mouse. If I use these the program locks up after a few seconds and needs to shut down. I can scroll using the scroll bar on the side & dragging with the mouse only. If I run an external regular mouse the scroll wheel is OK, no problems there thus far. Any suggestions?

Try updating the mouse drivers. If another mouse is fine, then it is almost certainly a problem with the drivers.

The computer is brand new, all driver updates have been confirmed by our IT dept. Is there anything else I could look for? The mouse functions don't seem to have a problem with any other programs.

    Thank you,

    nic

Maybe Franj1 will chime in tomorrow with a suggestion, but in my experience with the software if it works with a mouse from another manufacturer it's a driver problem.

It might not be drivers, but I'd bet it is based on past experiences.

Is this online with status on? Can you get it lock up in an offline project (e.g. one of the sample projects)?

I was running Lenovo T61 in a docking station with Win XP and DS5. Using the touchpad made DS5 freeze. Only solution was to use an external mouse.

I have the same notebook T61 in a docking station running XP. I have no problems with the mouse or touch pad. There are two engineers here that have an earlier T model and they have problems with the touch pad when running DS5. That only happens when they run on battery power. When the notebook is docked I use a wireless mouse and keyboard. I would call Lenova, they are good. 1-800-426-7416. I just got my notebook several months ago and I needed to do a firmware upgrade and other upgrades since I had it. I had issues. I still have an issue when the docking station loses power, my notebook freezes, they cant solve it, so I have the ac adapter plugged into the battery APS. Like I said earlier the problem you are having was with older models. Give them a call.

    Franji1,

That's an excellent question. So I tried it - and with only minimal experimenting it seems to work fine when offline. Normally when I'm working offline then the laptop is in a docking station & I'm using a normal mouse (for which the scroll wheel works fine, of course offline).

Next time I am online I will try the normal mouse scroll wheel & see what kind of results I get.

When this has happened before, it was a driver issue (or conflict of drivers). DirectSOFT is doing COMM, but the mouse driver is conflicting with the port driver. We do not have any special code in DirectSOFT for any special mouse or port, it's just an Ethernet port or a serial port or a modem - and we have no idea what the pointing device is (mouse, touchpad, joystick, etc.) or how the mouse is connected: USB, serial, PS/2, wireless.

These are all abstracted by Windows.

Check for updates to your comm port drivers and your mouse drivers, or try moving them around physically and/or logically.
