Can someone explain what exactly the Scratchpad memory does and how that differs from the other memory types. It seems like everytime I get some unexplained programming result the solution seems to be clearing the scratchpad. Just looking to understand the scratchpad memory a little more.

It is private "operating system " memory where internal non-user variables are stored. Initializing scratch pad kind of does a "restore system default ".
