I am installing a GS2-25PO drive on an existing machine. The current motor is a 3P, 3HP with a motor starter. The machine has a 30HP main drive and the 3HP is an auxiliary drive for the finished product. There is an overrun coupling (like a ratchet with only one paw) on the drive shaft that when the main drive in on the auxiliary drive turns without power. The auxiliary drive runs only the part of the machine that is after the overrun coupling. My question is that, if I set up the drive to cost to stop will it harm the drive if the motor is turned by the main drive? Can I use the ramp to stop feature?

I would recommend 2 things:
1.) Coast down -- When you do a coast to a stop, the drive is not outputting at all. This is ideal, because a ramp to stop is still outputting to the motor. The GS2 will more than likely experience a ocD when ramping down if you have a motor quadrant change.
2.) An isolation contactor on the output side controlled by one of the aux output relays set to any of the parameters that meet your application req. on page 4-31 in gs2 manual.
The main reason, it is unknown how the load change on the motor (Backfeed if any) will affect the IGBT's of the drive itself. I feel it would be a cheap and effective insurance policy angainst any possible damage.

Is it OK to open the output on the drive. I have some knowledge of drives and some say not to open the output. I can find nothing in the manual. Thanks for the help. Tommy
