Hi all, I currently have an unshielded, normally closed, PNP type capacitive proximity sensor (The sensor is CT1-CP-2A found at the link: http://www.automationdirect.com/static/specs/prox30mmcapct.pdf ) that I want to mount on a parker linear positioner (which is controlled by an MDrive 17 Motor and driver). The range on the capacitive proximity sensor is 20mm. When the motor on the linear stage is powered, however, the capacitive sensor senses the linear stage from about 9cm away. Has anyone else had a similar problem to this? If so are there ways to fix this interference problem? I was thinking of using mu metal ( http://www.mumetal.com/ ) to shield the sensor from the EM field put out from the powered linear stage. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Matthew

Is the motor ran off of the same 24VDC supply as the Prox?

If not on the same power supply then any chunk of well grounded metal between the motor and prox should provide adequate shielding.

If it is on the same power supply, the the issue may be that the motor is putting too much noise on the power supply and you may need to separate the motor and controls.

    Metal shield

    Thanks!

The prox and the motor are ran off different power supplies but placing a chunk of metal between the two seemed to work! Thank you for the quick reply!

    Best regards,
