I have managed to get the C-More 3 inch Micro grahics panel working, as well as the SureStep stepper drive system. I have the PC connected to Com1 (developement) but how do I connect HMI and Surestep when I only have 1 spare com2 ( actually 3 using com3 but I want that for a ASCII printout). Is there a solution for this?

Yes, cable swapping. Tedious but everything has a limit.

Click
It seem strange to me that the RS232 cannot be daisied chain. I am still in developement designing the system and do want to comunicate with the HMI and the Stepper system while I am monitoring the click responses.

With one transmit (which is active all the time) and one receive wire how would you daisy chain it?
The only method I have seen is a device which receives a message on the receive line. If the message is not meant for its address it replicates the message (with a delay) out the transmit line which may be attached to the receive input of yet another device. If the message is for it then it places its answering message on the transmit line addressed to the requesting unit. It was very slow.
But this depends on specific units with specifiic protocols (these aren't defined in the RS232 spec)

Click RS232
In effect I would connect SureStep to port2 and HMI to port1 and have no why of knowing anything about the system since I do not have the laptop to monitor the click.
I need to adjust the robotic arm while the user UPDATES the HMI to change position on the fly. It would be nice if the SureStep or the HMI had an address that could be dialed in (for each) so that the click could then be monitored while I create safety code

What about RS-485? Is therre someway to use the stepper
and CLick with HMI?

Low tech, but I use mine all the time:

I'd pickup a few gender changers too.

As Tubecut mentioned, how about utilizing the RS-485 port for multiple devices? You would need two things for this: an RS-485 adapter for the Cmore micro EA-MG-SP1 , and a RS-232/RS-485 converter for a Surestep drive. With that, you would be able to apply addressing to both units and still keep two ports open for other communications (PC & ASCII printout).

The Cmore Micro is a mastering device and I am assuming that the PLC would be mastering the SureStep. Only one mastering device is allowed on RS-485 except in very special circumstances.
