Hello, I have a CLICK plc and a Beijer hmi and need help with comm between the two. Since the Beijer hmi does not have a driver for the CLCK plc, Modbus RTU must be used. The CLICK plc is connected at port-2 at the hmi serial 232 port. Here is the port configuration for Modbus: Baud rate: 9600 (plc & hmi) Parity: odd (plc & hmi) stop bit: 1 (plc & hmi) Question: with communication in Modbus, should the node address be the same for the plc & hmi or different? Also, I am using a Automation Direct programming cable D2-DSCBL to communicate between the plc and hmi. The pin-out appears compatible for RX & TX, but I see the RTS (request to send) pin and the CTS (clear to send) pins are jumpered together....not sure if this is causing a problem with the rs232 protocol too. any info would be of great help since I am stuck park. Thanks, Jeff in Florida

Well after trial and error, I discovered that the programming cable internal jumper between RTS & CTS needed to be removed and the node addresses for the plc and hmi must be the same node address for modbus.
Also, the modbus register address was off by one count. The port configuration in the Beijer hmi allows compensation for this 1-address offset that must be configured to "1-base ". This automatically adds 1 to the modbus address specified.
Automation Direct tech also stated that the CLICK GND wire must be used to maintain communication stability.
For the record: Automation Direct tech support is excellent.

Hey this was helpful! I also disagree that customer help at AM is good. That's why I had to come here.
