Send EA7 program to new EA9 screen

So we had a panel supplied to us by a vendor with an EA7 screen on it. It lasted 5 years or so but it finally died and we purchased a new EA9 of the same size due to EA7 being obsolete. So I have the project straight from the vendor and I opened it up in C-More and it converted it for EA9 it seems.

The issues I am having. I bought a usb a to usb b cable and connected it and got nothing, but I think that may be because the usb drivers were blocked by the my companies laptop settings. I then also tried through ethernet cable, but I haven't figure out how to get it set up. Since I struggled with both of those I threw the converted project onto a usb stick and tried to restore from that. It did try to restore it and I got a firmware compatibility issue. Can I load the firmware onto the usb stick? I can't seem to find the firmware file to put on the stick. Or do I need to get my computer connected to the the panel to update the firmware?

If you have the EA9 software with the project open:

    Go to File>Project Transfer

    Select External Memory Device

    Select your USB pen drive

    Select Transfer

Now Restore this to your panel.

The above process puts the matched firmware and project onto the pen drive so that the firmware and project are loaded.

I encourage you to make sure you are using the latest version 6.60 released this week.

Thanks I will try that again. I have V6.6 and I purchased the $10 for the license, but I never got the license number. Would the issue be that I am still using the *Free* C-more software?

  • ADC_HMI_PE (AutomationDirect)

Starting with v6.60 the software is free. No license needed. You can now download for free from the website and install. The only reason you need to buy it is if you want the CD.

The free version is the same as the paid version. Nothing removed or cut out. Actually there were several security enhancements added with 6.60.

So I was able to get it to load this time. Now the issue I get is a PLC-026: PLC Connection Timeout Issue. Do I need to reconfigure anything on the screen for it to communicate with the PLC or do I need to go into the PLC? I was hoping this was just going to be an "easy" swap, but nothing ever goes that smoothly.

Nevermind I just had to change the IP address on the screen and it is all working now. Thanks for the help

  • ADC_HMI_PE (AutomationDirect)

If you took an EA7 project that was communicating just fine and put it in an EA9 and connected it up the same, it should all work.

    1) Are you sure it's the same project that was working?

    2) Treat it like a normal comm issue

    • check cable
    • check settings on both ends, the PLC and C-more, (Ethernet) IP Addresses, (Serial)Baud rate, Stop bits, Parity,...
    • The Error screen in the System screen may show more information about the timeout that will help.

Thanks for all the help. I was able to resolve the issue. Since the PLC and screen communicated through ethernet I had to change the IP address on the screen to the one that the PLC had previously been talking to. Since I don't have access to look at the PLC I was lucky that the vendor was able to send me the IP address they had used. All is working fine now.
