OkiePC (Customer) asked a question.
Old Click, New Software
Customer has an older Click PLC programmed by a person who has passed away. I need to make a backup of the PLC program. I have software versions 2.40 and 2.60. Can I use the latest software to upload from a Click that might have been programmed with version 1.40? I have written a handful of Click programs with various versions but I have never had to connect to one programmed by others.
Thanks
" Can I use the latest software to upload from a Click that might have been programmed with version 1.40?"
Yes, this should not be an issue.
When going online with a newer software to older firmware, and then "Read Project from PLC", you will be presented an option.
"This project has been saved with an earlier version of CLICK Programming software and needs to be converted to new project format. Do you want to make a copy of your original project?"
If you select Yes, it will create a new and separate file, "NewProject1(Ver2.50).ckp". The version number included in the parentheses is the current PLC firmware. This can also be confirmed by viewing SD5 & SD6 in a DataView.
Note: CLICK software and firmware version numbers must always be matching. So to use the new software to download project changes, you must first update the firmware. Or instead, run the software matching that firmware version.
Well the bad news is that the Click is password protected. The good news is that the person who programmed it is not the guy who passed away. I got in touch with the company and although he has moved on from them, they are going to try to reach him for me.
