I 've got to be missing something very obvious. How do I branch a rung in the program?

Go to "1 " column of the rung you wish to branch, and then hit ENTER. Now, if you wish to place a connection between a branch or branches, go to place just to the right of where you want the connection, press and hold the "Ctrl " key and then use your up and down arrow keys to make the connection. If you wish to remove this connection, press and hold "Ctrl and Shift " and use you up and down arrow keys.

Ended up messing around and figuring it out before seeing this, but thank you for taking the time! I appreciate it.

there are also mousey right-click (in ladder window) menu items for this. look for the 5th menu entry
I find control-key (and judicious ENTER/return key) drawing a bit faster/easier - and seems consistent with CLICK and DL/DMD - so learn on one, use on all.
