Hi. I am developing a new machine based upon the Productivity2000 cpu.

One of my core needs is to use the data logging functionality. Unfortunately, I cannot have people reaching into the electrical enclosure to eject the microSD card from the cpu.

I bought an extension cable off eBay thinking this would fit the bill. Surprise! the card will read properly and eject properly, but will not re-initialize itself when plugged into the extension cable.

Can anybody offer up a better solution or point me to a means of re-initializing the micro SD card after it has been ejected?

The card works as expected from the face of the P2-550 CPU.

Logging data to the microSD is not useable because I cannot have people reaching into the electrical enclosure to pop it out of the cpu.

Because of this, I am attempting to use a 24 " extender cable so I can provide access to the microSD card from outside the electrical cabinet.

This is where I need a means of re-initializing the memory card because the port connection at the CPU is never actually physically removed and re-inserted.

Just like there is a Portable Memory Device Eject tag, I am looking for a tag or address to re-start the memory card.

Got word back from our firmware team and the reason the SD card will not enumerate is due to when the cable is plugged into the SD slot there is a pin that detects something has been inserted (card, cable, etc.). Therefore, when using your extender cable since this is always plugged in the cpu thinks nothing has been removed thus causing the issue you are seeing.

Our team is looking into a possible improvement that would allow an extender cable to be used.

Currently only option is to enable and use the webserver to retrieve/delete log files from the SD card.

I will preface this with I have never tried this, but it could be worth a shot in your case.

You will need to get a male micro USB to standard SD Card slot extender.

Then you will need a SD Card wifi adapter.

Some of them come with flash, but most accept a 8-16Gb microSD card. You could use this setup on your laptop/computers wifi network to pull the files off without having to unplug it.

I have not researched this in depth, but on first pass glance at google results it looks possible. I think that the issue might be that the wifi sdcards are really made for transferring picture/video from a camera and it might not show files properly.

Another idea I had:

I wonder if a wireless external hard drive setup as a USB mass storage device plugged into the P2-550 would work instead of a micro sdcard. I doubt it, but that would be really easy.

Thank you both for the feedback and thought.

A webserver is more complication than I preferred, but I can see it. Also, a wi-fi card extender sounds promising. If I had not already taken action, I would give it a go.

In the interim, I have soldered across the card detect switch and connected the Card Detect to a relay output point. A pushbutton on the hmi is labelled "Re-Initialize SD Card. " Obviously, no warranty claims on this cpu! ha. This solution does works like a champ even if it is, admittedly, a hardware hack.

Ideally, a firmware update incorporating a new tag to re-start the microSD would be awesome. I am forecasting more machine builds and I would prefer to keep using the Productivity2000 line.
