Do-More vs Productivity 2000

I'm interested in opinions from people that have used both software packages. The P2000 seems to be more of a process controller with a focus on PID loops. For new projects, what would your preference be to use and why?

I'm also interested in a comparison, but I thought the P2 was just released so has anyone used it yet?

P2K programs with the same software as P3K, so aside from any possible missing hardware features on the smaller platform (have no idea if there are any or not), any existing P3K vs. Do-More comparisons should probably still apply.

I believe the intention of P2K was to be completely compatible with the P3K. All Do-more vs P3K feature comparisons should apply. P2K cost is less than P3K, so the cost analysis is different...however...
...we really don't see these products as competitive, so much as complimentary. The feature sets tend to emphasize different markets. Both the Productivity series and Do-more will continue to develop new hardware to expand their respective markets.
I can't speak to Productivity, but we 're just getting started with Do-more. The plan was always to introduce the controller on existing hardware to gain confidence in the technology, then to expand to new platforms. Those efforts are well under way. We are very excited about the future.

Well said BobO. There are plans to continue building out the Productivity Series as well. We can expect Do-more & the Productivity Series to carry us well into the future. Both are powerful and have great features, but are different in many ways. Both have free programming software, so download and play with them to find out what you like.

I 've had great luck with the Do-More platform myself and will most likely switch to that in a micro size when that comes out. I 've have to take a look at the platform comparisons even though I tend to like to hear options from actual users of both platforms.

We consider Do-more's wheelhouse to be high-speed machine control. Your app sounds like a direct hit for what we do, but in fairness, it doesn't sound like a stretch for either platform.
I'm sure the real automation guys can offer opinions, but my suggestion would be to download Do-more Designer and test some code on the simulator.

@SouthwestMfg, You know you could use Applied motion's hub444 with a single Click PLC.

@andremholmes – I’ve seen that option mentioned. So with the hub you can address (?) multiple intelligent drives from the single Click. I will only need two drives at this point, so two Click’s (master slave) and two intelligent drives looks lower cost than one Click and a hub (444). I looked this over a bit and it seems for only two drives the step & dir. Is lower / same as two drive using SCL. Not sure if there is more or less programing overhead for going the SCL route ?
Current system design will only get to two Size17 (1.5A-2.5A) motors. Do appreciate any feedback / suggestions.

I'd personally stay away from multiple cpu's unless you absolutely have to.

We are an OEM, and looking hard into going from the Do-More to the P2K. Why? Because you get more bang for your buck.
The P2K processor is $44.00 less than the low ball Do-More CPU, and you get a whole lot more communication ports with the P2K. Also, the P2K has already built-in capability to network to GS drives. Also, looking at the I/O modules; P2K modules are less money than Do-More. The P2K CPU has a built-in LCD message display, the Do-More does not.
We do data logging of machine throughput, machine alarms, etc., so a good portion of memory is devoted to that (and as a side, if you do the same, the Click gets bogged down doing this, and its scan times deteriorate to over 50ms.)
Another great feature of the P2K is tagged based programming, we prefer it over X inputs, Y outputs, etc. The fact that either platform has free software is a good one, so you can't go wrong there.
Personally, when we received the email, we did a little research, and purchased the starter kit immediately. We 're already playing with it, and think we 've found the platform that we can convince our customers to allow us to use over Allen-Bradley (its a battle we must fight with every customer brainwashed that Rockwell Automation is better.)
