I'm not an ethernet expert, but what you described to be sounds like essentially the same thing.

If your company network is huge and overloaded, there may be some speed advantages to hooking them to a separate switch prior connecting it to the rest.

I 've wondered if it wouldn't be better to have 2 ethernet ports on the hmi. One for local plc coms and another for access to the rest of the world.

Option 1 sounds best to me. It keeps the messages going between the CMores and the P3000 local. They don't affect the rest of the plant network. If they do choose to implement some type of monitoring over the plant network then those messages will go right on in.

But the expense of the wiring to the remote CMores may make you do option 2.

I am working on an application that will use a Productivity 3000 and several C-More 6in operator interface panels. These panels will be connected to the PAC using either net. I have considered two options. Option 1 would be to connect all of my panels and my PAC to a switch in my control cabinet and then connect the switch to my company eithernet network. Option 2 would be to just connect my PAC to my company eithernet network, and then connect my operator interface panels throughout my plant by connecting them to the company network.

Is anyone familiar with the pros and cons of each method of connecting the devices?
