DoMore or P3000

We are upgrading a control system now using a DL260 which will monitor RTD's, thermocouples and lots of Rosemont pressure sensors with analog cards. I want to do data logging. Currently the DL 260 does what we need to date but want to install the latest and greatest AD has to offer. Data logging is becoming more important to us. I 've done PC systems using Steeplechase and it works well. However the cost is very expensive. My question is which is better. DoMore or Productivity 3000. I can't find many reviews on the Productivity 3000. They seem to have issues from what I 've read in this forum. Is the Domore enough of a step up and will support be there for years to come and how about the p3000? If someone has experience using these, coments would be most welcome. ThankYou

Given my obvious bias, I won't speak to the effectiveness of Do-more...but I'm sure others will chime in. I will say that it is a considerable step up from DL, both in performance and capability.

As for long term support, quite simply, it's the future of Host. We have invested heavily in it and are actively developing new Do-more controllers. We expect it to become our most important product.

The simple answer is to try it. The software is free and includes a full featured simulation of the controller. The simplest logging can be done in about two minutes. Open the DM Logger utility. Use STRPRINT to put a string value into SS0, then use STREAMOUT with the DM Logger device.

I think both units can do what you are wishing to do easily. The cheaper route would definitely be the Do-More because you will not have to replace all of your hardware. But if you like the PC option for data logging you should check out the new Point of View SCADA/HMI software. Much more capability for data collection than any of the plc platforms.

I have no experience with the P3000, but have used/abused the DoMore pretty extensively.

It can do simple logging with only 2 instructions (see Bobo's post).

You'll never go back to DL after you 've tried it! :D

I have not used the Do-More for logging yet, but I have used both Do More and P3000 for projects. Hands down I prefer the Do More to the P3000 or the DL. If you already have the hardware in place with DL (or have the spare parts in stores) you can use it with the Do-More. We program and troubleshoot GE, AB, Omron, Siemens, Horner, ABB, Mitsubishi, etc., for new projects we try to use the Do More when ever possible (unless another brand is required by the customer). It's fast, easy to program and we have had very good luck with AD hardware. Even our AB (Rockwell) programmer is impressed with the Do More. (and he thinks when you die you go to Milwaukee) :D

OP stated that he already has the DL205 components... so, my vote is for the Do-More.

Like jwbaker stated, the speed is amazing, and the programming is a lot more intuitive that other s/w packages. And the cost? You really can't beat it!

I spec these on all changeovers & retrofits in house now :)

We use DataWorx to do all of our logging and both Pro3000 and now the Do More works great. In fact they just posted a new version of Dataworx that works with the Do-More, see the following for the app note: http://support.automationdirect.com/technotes.html#dataworx

We tried it and it works great, their are a lot of cool features.
