P3000 Ethernet ports

I had asked tech support about this a while ago, but I am wondering if there is any update on the addition of more Ethernet ports for the P3000. Doesn't need to be built into the CPU, an add on card would do just fine. I desperately need more Ethernet ports for these awesome PLC's!!!

Thank you for your patience. We realize that we are currently missing out on some applications by not offering additional ethernet ports for the Productivity3000 series PAC. They are currently on our list as an enhancement to the product line. Unfortunately we do not have a time frame when these modules will be available.

Just so I can understand the necessity, why would you not be able to use a switch?

The P3-350 module only has a single port, but the 550 additional is just for a remote.

A switch gets you additional physical connections, but if you have the port maxed out data wise you would need additional ports.

Understood, I have not run into that in my experience as we still operate at 9600bps!

Another reason I can think of would be LAN isolation. You might want to have devices on the machine (VFDs or such) on a seperate LAN than your SCADA connection to the PLC.

I specifically need them for high speed control applications. We typically pair these PLC's with motion controllers and are able to achieve read/write communications in under 3ms. Now lets says you want to have a bunch of HMI's or some SQL database logging setup on the same PLC, the resources of a single Ethernet port can become consumed quite easily which affects the communications to the motion controller. So having the ability to split this network traffic up becomes very desirable.

I would love to be in on any Beta testing when it becomes available!

I think the easiest in the short term would be to give the second ethernet port (Remote & GS-Drives) the same programming capability of the primary port. We already know it has a TCP/IP stack as it uses TCP port 502 talk to GS-Drives (I'm guessing it also uses Modbus/TCP).

The ability to switch the second port between Remote I/O and Modbus would be great. Obviously with systems where remote I/O is required this provides no benefit, but it would definately suit some applications. I am sitting on a large project right now that i need remote I/O and at least 2 seperate ethernet ports and i fear i will be forced to use another PLC instead of the P3000. I really hope this request is getting some attention.

As the P3000 Product Engineer stated earlier, we have additional Ethernet port modules listed as an improvement. We do not have a time frame for implementation just yet.
