I would like these features added to the Pro-Suite Software. 1) Find/Replace cannot replace on partial tags only complete tags. When using a list of tags with the same beginning characters, you cannot search and replace the for the beginning characters. This makes you replace them either by full tag (for the entire list individually) OR find everyone individually and change them (leaves changes wide open for copy and paste errors). 2) Why can't the TagName be the SystemID? While importing tags into the software if a TagName is changed on a used SystemID, the new TagName is written into everywhere that ID was being used prior. This creates confusion when a successful import is done and tagging mistakes are made (easy to screw up). Also, System ID######## means nothing to me where Pump1_RunStatus does. 3) Tagging and Rung Descriptions are off everytime I open the software and I have to enabled them everytime if I want to see them. Also, they don't stick out that much to begin with (no colour definition or nice layout). 4) A lot of Tags and Routines make compiling and saving really slow. Is there a way to streamline this and make it faster? (this is not even online at this point) 5) Mouse Scroll sensitivity is page by page not rung by rung. I find myself using the scroll bar all the time. What's the point of using the scroll wheel on my mouse if it's just going to make me swear. This is all for now. So far this program is not fun to use; for a newer software it lacks the standard features of it's competitors old software. I'm definitely not impressed so far. And there will be more requests to come.

Thanks for input! These suggestions have been forwarded on to the product management group.

Thanks for all the great suggestions on the Productivity Suite Software, we are currently working on most of your suggestions. I have a question on number 1:
1.) Are you looking for wildcard search & replace, for example:
Tagnames: Voltmeter
Voltmeter_1
Search: Volt*
Replace: Volt_tester
This will change all tags starting with volt with the tag name Volt_tester. Is this the feature you are looking to add to the current search & replace?

Or perhaps, given your example tagnames,
Search Volt*
Replace Amp*
Gives
Ampmeter
Ampmeter_1

2) Why can't the TagName be the SystemID?
If I understand your concern.....
If I edit the tagname database externally then import, I edit the TagName replacing the HYPHEN with an UNDERSCORE.
Example C-000030 is changed to C_000030.
I can recover deleted tags using this method, and the recovered tag really sticks out in the tagname database.

P3K_ADC_Eng,
Reply to 1) :
Yes this is the type of replace that I am looking for. While Find and Replacing the Pro-Suite software, the tag name would be flagged for replacing. When the replace is done, it would replace the tagname and system ID in the routine that you chose.
The reason I ask this is because we are currently mapping our tags into arrays, just so we can streamline the creation of our repeatedly used parts of code. We are using arrays because they can have many elements with one name, which make search and replace easy. However, we are effectively creating double the amount of tags that we require; program saves take FOREVER!!! I hope this doesn't effect processor performance? I think it will, we just haven't installed yet.
THE QUICKER THE BETTER ON THIS FEATURE!!! Please tell me that I can be done already?
Reply to 2) :
Frankly, I don't like worring about overwriting a systemID.
If I change a tag in system ID1 (example not reflective of real systemID) that's fine. If I accidentally overwrite a used systemID while during an import, I won't know it until something looks out of place while I'm programming (open to human error).
If the tagname were the system ID (a TAGNAME is easier to remember then a sequentially gererated number) than the rest or the container changes would be made to that tag rather then it's system ID reference.
Container, is to say that, currently the SystemID is the container to it's attributes; that includes the tagname. I am suggesting the that tag name is the containter to the rest of the attributes (ie. Retentative, etc.)
If I mess a tagname up when I import the tagname will fall in place of the systemID container where the old tagname was used. Which leaves me with a random tag in a place I don't expect to see it. This really just leaves it open to import export error.
Also, we are intending on using iFix as a scada software. This will key off the systemID. With the combination of number 1) and 2) it leaves alot of holes for mismatch and extra tag to be polled on the network. This is bad because our base programs are huge and this is probably going to affect our network.
As I said earlier, we haven't installed these PAC3000's yet, and don't want to install two of these PAC's just to find that the network is full.
I know that a network may take alot of traffic to bring down; but when you combine 12 PAC's all controlling large systems, double the amount of tags that they should have, and a SCADA application asking for double the amount of data that it requires. IT MAKES ME WORRY!!!
Thank you for the reply to this tread. I hope the Find & Replace by partial characters is a hot topic and is part of the next program release.
Hopefully this is released soon, I would make my life at least 2X's easier.

TWilson,
To answer your first question, the partial character feature for the search/replace in Productivity Suite software will not be in the next release of the software. It is currently being looked at by our Development Team as a future feature improvement.
Your concern on having 12 PAC's on your network, have you considered using a managed switch to help control ethernet traffic. Please see links below:
