I'm needing some kind of interface to punch a 4 digit number into a PLC. Was looking at the EA3 due to ease of interfacing with PLC, but they are not outdoor rated. It will be mounted under cover and not exposed to sun. May get wet from indirect rain or humidity. Any other keypad options available?

How about using the EA9-RHMI unit.

You could then use the Ethernet port to a wireless router. The remote app on your phone can be used to access the HMI. The weather would not be an issue.
Just a thought, not knowing your exact application.
Regards,
Garry

Its a bit late of a reply but you may want to contact A.D. technical pre-sales support.
At least for the EA9 series HMI units, while it does say indoor only, they are gasket-ed and they carry a NEMA 4/4X rating. I inquired about clarification and they advised me that the indoor
aspect was due to the HMI's being susceptible to degradation from UV light. Almost all HMI's that I'm familiar with are prone to UV attack, so when installing outdoors we always protect them behind a sun shade that maintains the NEMA rating of the enclosure.
I 've been installing EA7's and EA9's on outdoor applications for a few years now in this manner, no issue.

I did get with AD tech support and they said it was a no go on the EA3s. Red Lion on the other hand pretty much told would you just did. The indoor rating is due to UV.

Which EA3s are you looking at? These are 4x, right or wrong I have a few in less than ideal corrosive/damp environments w/the extra gasket. Nothing they run is critical if they do fail and for what they cost I'm not too worried.
