We are just migrating to a PLC-based motion control system for our products. One of the items I'm working through is the release procedure and rev control of the software (for both do-more and c-more). I'd like to use our existing PDM system (DBWorks). I 've done some playing and some issues I was concerned about are not a problem. I can check in/check out and approve a file. I can create a new rev and use my PDM to restore a previous rev (which was a major concern for me). Now, what I'd like to be able to do is when we "release " a job is to read the .dmd file from my PDM into the Do-More designer and load it into the PLC. Unfortunately Do-More doesn't seem to want to open a locked (read-only) file-and my PDM system locks the file upon approval. Is there an easy way around that? (the C-More seems to work fine opening the locked .eap9 file). Thanks in advance.

Should be able to go into File Explorer and right click the file properties and uncheck Read Only.

You 're quite right, that works fine. But it defeats the purpose of a PDM. Having rev control of that released file is an important part of the process.

In the long run, we have workarounds. My thought is we'll end up making copies of the "master " file, append the name with the specific job number of the product in question and then save that file in a job-specific directory so we have traceability of what went to that specific customer. That is how we handle our mechanical boms. It would be nice to open the "locked " master file in domore designer and then do a save-as from there, just like we can with the C-more files.
