String Tag data on to a trend data file

Is there anyway to get a String tag in to a data log? I need the ability to have a serial # (alpha numeric tag) along with data values to be placed in to a data log file. Is there anyway to do that with an EA9 10 " Panel? Serial # does not have to appear every time when data is logged (i.e. with each line of data). Only when data logging is started. Anyway to trick the data log header line so I can incorporate a dynamic string tag on to it?

You can setup an event in event manager and embed a string in the message and log it to a external device.
