Panel is a EA7-S6m-R that was installed about 2 years ago. Trying to download an update and so it needed to do a firmware update to V2.78. The fupdate keeps failing with a PTC-009 error. On the panel I have the message " Do not remove power to panel during update! " and "Updating Exec... 53 ". Everytime I try again the number increases. I am on site now and am unable to get an answer to my phone calls at AD tech. Please help.

The is normal. The reason you keep getting a timeout is due to the number of updates that the firmware update is needing to add to your panel.

Just keep updating the panel..the number will continue to get higher...it will eventually finish.

If you can't get it to go through via comm's you could try dropping the firmware in via a USB stick.

Usually if you keep trying it will finish. Sometimes it takes a few tries.

Thanks for the reply. Any idea what the completed number is? I am up to 116.

It's not a set number. It's merely a counter to give some indication that it is working on the update.

I have been at this for over an hour. I am up to 588 on the counter. It will not read my USB stick. Anything else I can try?

    Fyi

After more than two hours I gave up. I went and found a USB drive that works with the C-more and downloaded the firmware to it. It took about 5 minutes to update with the thumb drive.

I have updated many panels via ethernet, but this was the first one that I have ever done that did not have ethernet. If you ever have to update a panel that does not have ethernet; get a thumb drive or a CF card.

This is not "normal " behavior. If USB will not complete a firmware update, it is usually due to one or a combination of the following:

    - USB cable too long

    - USB voltage too low from the PC

    - Electrical noise on the USB connection

    Possible solutions:

    - Use a shorter higher quality USB cable

    - Try a different PC

    - Eliminate all USB hubs and connect directly from the PC to the C-more

    - Make sure the C-more properly grounded

    - Eliminate any sources of electrical noise

With C-more Panel manufactured after December 2007, you can cycle power after the update fails. If the OS and/or firmware are corrupted by this, which is rare, you can use the Recovery Tool to recover the C-more Panel. See help File Topic CM498.
