Adding Device error

I am trying to import a tag database to my cmore software. I go through the Import popups first choosing the "File Path. " I then "add " the device making sure that the panel and the device are selected. I "ok " out of that screen back to the "import " screen, but there is no device selectable in the device drop down menu. Of course if I just try to hit import I get a "GUI-007: Add Device " error. Any idea why it is not updating the device drop down menu in the "import " screen? Do I have to be currently connected to the device for it to work? Thanks in advance.

You do not have to be connected to the device. Have you tried adding the device in the Device Manager first?

What device you want to import tags from Solo temp, PLCs?

If say you are using a Click, from the software you would export nickname. Then from the C-more software you import tag, select the type of PLC and the file you created.

These are the exact steps I have gone through:

Setup->Panel Manager-> I ensure my panel is selected and under the " COM Port " I have my device listed. I configure my device under the "Direct Connection " heading. I "Ok " out of the panel manager.

File->Import>Tag Name Database->File Path->I navigate to my database *.csv file and select it. In the "CSV/XLS Import Option " portion of the window I have no "device " listed in the drop down menu. I then choose the "add " button. It navigates back to the panel manager where my device is already listed. I hit okay, but my device is still not listed under the "device " drop down menu.

I do not understand why it is not adding my device, although in the panel manager my device is listed.

Any thoughts? If you have any questions please let me know, but I think those are all the steps I have done in order.

    Thanks.

    What plc are you using?

Post a section of the program you are working on.

The PLC we have is the Allen-Bradley DF1 Full Duplex (PLC5)

As for as the "section of the program I am using, " I am not sure I understand the question. I have made all the new screens for our new GUI and I am now trying to upload the tag name database from our existing PLC to the C-more programming software so I can start to associate the tags to the graphics I have made.

Hope that is a bit clearer. If there are any other questions, please let me know.

    Thanks for the help.

IF THE PLC YOU ARE USING IS A CLICK THEN YOU HAVE TO EXPORT THE PLC PROGRAM TO NICKNAME (THE I/Os YOU USE HAVE TO HAVE NICKNAME).

THEN FROM THE C-MORE YOU GO TO FILE, IMPORT TAGNAME DATABSE THEN CLICK ON FILE PATH, THIS WILL TAKE YOU TO THE FILE YOU EXPORTED FROM THE PLC PROGRAM. WHEN YOU ADD DEVICE IT SHOULD BE DEV001 SELECT THE C-MORE 6 " 8 " 12 " OR 15 ". CLICK ON THE DEV001 FROM THE DROP DOWN SELECT THE PLC TO SET UP THE PROTOCOL. OK THAT

I do not believe my PLC is CLICK, but will look into that.

Well to say I am getting an error is probably because I tried to bypass "adding " the device portion during some of this troubleshooting by adding the database with no device selected (GUI-007). I navigate to the *.csv file perfectly in the import manager. The problem occurs when I try to choose my device in the panel manager. The correct panel and device is listed in the panel manager already, but when I go back to the import tag name database it does not list my device.

    Thanks.

Point to the file path where you saved the tag name file. The device should be DEV001. Click on DEV001 this will take you to panel type, then from panel manager click on DEV001, at the top choose your PLC from the drop down PLC protocol.

    jbutterfield,

I don't know what type/format/layout you get when you "export " a tag database from an AB PLC5.

I can tell you what I have done in the past to get past these database issues.

Create a "NEW " project in the cmore software and set up the proper device and communication protocal.

Then create a couple tags in the project, one for a discrete address, and another for a variable address (N:, etc) with the PLC device in the tag address.

Now, export the CMORE tag database, and when you look at it after export, you can see what it is looking for as far as what is in each column and such.

Compare this to the AB PLC5 database you exported from the AB software to see what formatting issues you may need to change, and where to put things like device type.

The point being, export a known good tag database from the CMORE to see what it is supposed to look like so you can fix the one you really want to import.

    Good Luck, Hope this helps,
