What can be done to connect to a c-more HMI via an internet connection to remote monitor and control if the controls are not near an existing LAN? I need to remotely monitor pump stations and would like to use the web server capabilities of the hmi.

We use ethernet 802.11 radios to get the internet to the screen/plc. We have them working up to 10 miles outdoors and 4500 feet in the factory. We normally use them point to point but some customers want the have wireless access for their laptop also and we set them up as an access point. These radios have been used by the wireless ISP's for years and hold up very well. I have some running for 3 years without a failure. If you are using them outdoors depending on your area, look at the temperature rating they vary by manufacturer. In doors or if there is no line of sight we normally use a 900 mhz, if there is near line of sight we use 2.4 ghz and if there is true line of sight we use 5 ghz. Faster = more distance and larger bandwidth. The radios we use are about $150 per node.

jw it sounds like you have an existing LAN with internet connectivity that you are linking to it by way of radio. That LAN probably has a proxy server and firewall. What if I don't have an existing LAN. I guess what I'm trying to do is actually host a web site in the middle of a corn field. So do I need a to purchase a domain name and have all of the server equipment to pull this off or is there another solution?

I do not host a web site to connect and control the C-More. I have a lot of installations in corn fields on grain dryers and bin sites. If we can not get internet from a customer within 10 mile of the site we have an internet connection put in the bin site from an ISP. We install a VPN router (We use netgear 318's) setup the VPN (I use a VPN client on my laptop) connect the plc and cmore to the router, no P.C. required. Make sure the plc (ecom100) and the c-more are on the same subnet as the router when you set up the LAN. If the connection is dynamic I use a DNS service to keep track of the gateway. Set up the C-more for remote access with user names and passwords. With this setup I can control the C-more, update/troubleshoot the c-more and the plc programs as needed from anywhere I can get an internet connection. (hotel, rest area, McDonald's, etc.) If you don't have the plc connected with ethernet the same setup will work for the C-more alone, you just cant get to the plc from the internet. The C-more can be setup to have 3 accounts with 5 users per account so up to 15 users can access the screen. I make the customers accounts so they can check up on the equipment anytime but have to be there to start it up. (safety) We use this on almost every installation, most are 100's of miles away from our office and I am on the road a lot during harvest. We have lift stations running with almost the same setup but we setup a SCADA system for control and tracking. If the customer wants to access the c-more from a smart phone we setup a computer at the c-more on the router and use remote software on the phone to remote desktop to the computer and connect the computer to the c-more. (It's a work around until they get the screens to work with a smart phone...I hope) If you need help send me an E-mail and we can talk, I don't know if I have been clear on how it works for us.

Thanks jw that is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm checking out the VPN router and the VPN client software you suggested. I may have more questions for you once I scope it out.
