I am looking for an alternative to Lookout direct HMI and something easier to use and without the USB Dongles, any ideas or suggestions? (Lost 2 of them already 3 K down the drain...)

computronics, that is a good question. I have been looking. But I have not found anything as good and affordable as the LookoutDirect for a PC-based SCADA system. Plus you cannot find a better company than AutomationDirect. I would not even be looking except for two problems we ran into:
1. The recipe object only works with an old version of excel, and the new Excel cannot "save-as " this older version.
2. You are limited to 500 I/O. It would be nice, but there are no upgrades you can buy to add more I/O.
Yes, the dongle is an inconvenience. I understand, but there are other ways to protect the software, such as activation codes, etc.
Also I would like Run package to be less expensive, even if the Development package has to be more.
Have you looked into Visual BASIC? We did a project with VB. It's the right idea, but a little too much tedious programming for me for anything but a simple HMI.

Look at Citec. dont know the cost, but there is no developer charge, only runtime. which is nice for the programmer
