OK I'm a little new at this so forgive me if this is a lame question. I am using a proximity sensor as an encoder on a gear motor and I was curious if I could still use the ctrio wrkbnch or any other ctrio functions. Any input would be appreciated.

The reason I ask is for a machine that I am building. It is a welding machine that moves on 3 axis by gear motor. I am using a dl06 and a c-more touch screen, what I want to do is to allow the operator to set points along the x axis for the weld to start and stop by manually driving the carriage to the point and pressing a button to set then driving to the next and so on. Once all the points are set he could the press a run button and have the carriage drive to the programmed points. I know there is a run to position command but I don't think I can use it without an encoder. Or can I?

The simple answer is yes, the CTRIO can count pulses from a prox sensor. But you would need an encoder, or (2) prox sensors located 90deg from each other to allow the CTRIO to determine direction, to count up and down. The CTRIO workbench is for setting up the CTRIO and can also be used for some monitoring. However, the workbench would not be used for the machine control under normal operation. Hope this helps.
