I have a customer that has a "SCREEEN NOT PROGRAMMED " message on his EZ-Touch. He does NOT have the backup to restore the screens. The EZ Panel is displaying: 86,232 used 430,056 Free 524,288 Total. Is it possible to download fron the EZ Panel to the EZ touch software? I would like to see if there is any program in it. I am using a USB-Serial, and then a straight DB9-DB9 cable. I have a Dynex and a Keyspan USB-serial, but I am unable to establish communication with the EZ touch panel. I do not know what baudrate to set the comms to. I understand it is in the application, but what if i dont know it or there isnt an application.

It depends on the firmware version of the panel and the software version on your PC.

Unless things have changed, there was no need to set baud rate for downloads/uploads. The software sets it automatically when the download/upload is started.

With only 86k used it doesn't sound like there is a project present although I could be mistaken.

Those versions should talk to each other.

    So either:

    1. Your programming cable has an issue.

    2. There is something with your USB to Serial adapter that the software doesn't like.

    3. There is some other issue such as interference from other software packages or noise.

    4. The panel is damaged.

I'd suggest you call in to Tech Support and get them to go over it with you. It will be a lot faster than trying to troubleshoot it here.

    EZ Touch

I am trying to connect with a straight thru cable from my Keyspan (I also tried a Dynex). The keyspan is working with the PLC, I can go online. It is Ethernet tfrom the H4-ECOM to the EZ Touch. Is there a way to use ethernet without knowing the IP? When I use Netedit3 I dont see any of the modules, and I dont have the options shown in the manual (probably because I cant see the modules). I just added the IPX protocol, and I'm going to try again.

    EZ touch

I added the IPX protocol, and now I can see the H4-ECOM. It says its IP is 255.255.255.253.

    EZ Touch

This is a image captured from Netedit3. The interesting thing here is that there are no setting for subnet or gateway addresses.

The second image is after I edited the IP Address.

If you were connected into the same switch as the 405 and the EZ-Ethernet, you should see both in Netedit since they are made by HOST Engineering. It sure looks like something is wrong with the panel. My guess offhand without more knowledge is that there was some sort of major power event such as a lightning strike that wiped the panel and took out the communication ports. Of course this is just a guess and I could be wrong.

NetEdit3 does not have a spot for subnet or gateway in the main configuration for H4-ECOM. The reason being, the ECOM uses UDP to transmit and UDP does not need a subnet modifier or a gateway since it is by definition a broadcast protocol. Broadcasts are restricted to the local network level only.

    EZTouch

I didn't have a switch, I was connected only peer-peer. Thats why only one at a time. Did earlier versions of NetEdit allow IP ranges in the restricted area above 224.x.x.x? What explanation could there be for the addresses (255.255.255.253) ECOM, and (255.255.255.254) EZTouch? All I did was open Nedit3, and then click on general. If I hit ok, the message popped up saying the current IP that was programmed was out of range. I hit cancel and Netedit3 still reported the 255.255.255.253 as in the screenshot. I changed it to the 192.168.1.1. I also thought that some surge may have messed up the ECOM IP, but when I found the HMI IP at .254, I believe someone, somehow did this intentionally.

I have refrained from downloading a test program to the HMI, because I dont have a backup. In the event the program was still in there, I didnt want to loose it.

Now I have tried to upload from the HMI to my laptop via ethernet because I set the IP to 192.168.1.2. I can ping it, but not see it if I set Nededit protocol to TCP/IP. The message I get is packet error, check cabling.

What message will I get if I try to ethernet upload from an EZTouch with no program in it, just a pingable IP?

Can someone try simulate this by pulling a battery?

This is why i wondered id the 86K the EZTouch is reporting as used is in fact a user program, or just some memory used by the system.

The screens in here are all just pushbuttons, probably was 10-12 screens, each with a few pushbuttons. So it would have been a small program.

The reason for all of this, is there are NO electrical drawings for this machine. I have zero documantation for the logic as well, but its only 75 rungs.

I could easily recreate the screens, if i knew what the buttons were doing.

The program only contains X, Y, C and some timers. There are 3 16 point input modules, and 3 16 point output modules. Can the EZtouch write to X variables even if there is a card in the slot? I'm not all that familiar with addressing in the automation direct 450. What assigns the address to the card. I knowI need to read the manual, but a 10 second conversation would clear this up for me. I started a EZTouch project, selected generic ethernet I/O for coms. Is this correct? How to I assing a button to an X12 for example, assuming I can figure out what this program did by chasing wires fro the outputs to devices on the machine.

    "SCREEEN NOT PROGRAMMED "

This may be caused from a dead battery in the panel. Unfortunately, if this is the case, the program is lost.
