I have a similar problem to another poster in this forum. I have had 3 occurances now of 8-inch screens 'crashing '. They go to the white background with the curser and stay there. Once power is removed and re-applied the proper program comes up and then work fine. This happens on random intervals. I will list 3 situations. 1) PLC setup. DL240 single base connected via Port 1 using one of those green koyo cables. PLC and screeen ran fine for 2 months, then froze 8 times in 4 days, and then last time i checked with the site it hadnt frozen again for over a month. The program in the PLC or C-more had not been changed at all for 3 weeks prior to the crashing occuring. 2) 2 seperate sites connected via wireless ethernet, consisting of 2 plc's at one end and 1 at the other. 1 screen at each end - everything connected via ethernet. Ethernet cables are all Cat 6. Has run fine for 6 weeks (however with constant changes over this time as we are still commissioning/upgrading the plant). A few days ago the first screen froze, then the following day the other screen froze, and then this morning the first one froze again. Common factors between all 3: They all use Meanwell 24vdc power supplies - 5A capable running just the PLC and the screen, a handfull of miniture relays and a couple of lights. Everything is individually fused and current draw is down below 1amp at every site. Every program has trending running - using built in memory only. No additional storage in any of the screens. On checking the memory usage on the screen I have never seen it even close to full. All screens are grounded properly to the same point as the PLC's. The cabinets are all grounded properly to the site ground. 24vdc- is also bonded to ground. I am wondering if this is a common problem with the 8inch screens? Prior to these 3 screens I had used 2 12inch screens with similar sized/complexity programs and had never had this problem occur. Cheers, Simon.

Are all of the relay coils supressed with diodes, MOV's or other means to protect the circuit against the Counter-electromotive force generated by the relay coils?

The first thing they 're gonna ask is what firmware version and what driver. If it's not the latest you should probably update before any more testing.

Simon, I had problems with 8 " C-More as you may have seen on this forum http://forum1.automationdirect.com/board/Forum8/HTML/000589.html.

Besides going through the considerations in that thread you may also want to check the stability of the power feed TO the 24vdc power supply. Are you using the same powerline to feed frequency converters or other noisy users? That could potentially induce power surges on the powerline and negatively affect the power supply and the stability of the 24vdc. Unstable power to the C-More can crash it.

i have had the same problem with a 12 " panel it started on the last firmware update total count of occurrences is 5 but last time I attempted to clear the panel memory that failed also ???? but since that attempt it hasn’t happened again

ok as you may have read i had the freezing problem and i found a definite cure . i put a 35 volt 1500 uf capacator across the 24 volt dc input. no more freezing up . it seams there is little or no noise protection for the operating voltage of the c-more if you dont use the optional piggie back power supply .

We have had issues with C-Mores and DirectLogic PLCs behaving erratically following noise in the powerlines. Examples are C-More going blank and PLC losing part of program. Powerline filters most often cure the problems and should of course be considered a standard part of a serious quality installation.

I am curious to know how C-More and DirectLogic noise immunity compares with the competition. Does anyone have experience with competitive products in a noisy environment? Is it all the same? Is this perhaps a design detail that Koyo is working on?

    This may be the problem

".. Meanwell 24vdc power supplies - 5A capable running just the PLC and the screen, a handfull of miniture relays ... "

I never put an active inductive load on the same power suppy as the display. Power supplies are so inexpensive, its worth it to put a separate supply just for the display or if you need to, you could run the PLC with it. If running AC to the display is practical then $68 to assure clean power to your display is worth it.

As others have noted, it sounds like a transient issue.

Put some snubbers on your coils or get the panel onto a dedicated power supply and see what happens.

There are some advantages when using the EA-AC power adaptor that they sell for C-more. It provides some features that a normal DC power supply cannot provide, like a power loss signal to the touch panel that can be used to track power outages. It has an internal tag that can be logged and help to record when the power fault occured. This

signal also allows the touch panel by way of a timed sequence to stop writing data to CompactFlash memory devices providing a controlled shutdown for increased data logging reliability. I have found that power issues often cause the symptoms you have mentioned with other HMI's i have used as well.
