Why do I get a PLC MSG Timeout CMD=A2? There are no faults on the PLC and the panel is set to computer on Com 1. The panel and PLC were turned off for ~7 days, but this has been done before with no problems. The battery does need to be replaced on the PLC but it has not failed yet and did not lose the program. IS this telling me that there is no communication between the devices? Is it possible that the panel battery needs replaced even if it doesn't lose the program. I reloaded the program but that didn't help.

I'm wondering why you mention "the panel is set to computer on Com 1 "? This port is for the programming computer or a printer. It should not effect the PLC port communications with the PLC. The PLC connects to the PLC port. Does your EZTouch have any invalid tags? Are you trying to print to a printer from the EZTouch?

This is the only thing I saw in the setup that could be changed that might interfere with comms. The biggest problem I have is not able to talk to the PLC (SLC 5/04) when the panel is connected to it because are laptop with the RIO card was stolen and I have to use the RS 232 port to look at the ladder logic. I thought if I programmed the PLC for home position and shut down everything and reconnected to the panel at the RS 232 port it would be at the proper screen when started. It just gives me the error.

When connected using the PC to the PLC write down all parameters of you communication channel (RSLinx). Then check the program for the EZTouch and compare them. You may find some difference.

I'm sorry but I'm not understanding your problem exactly. When you power up your EZTouch, is your "Power Up Screen " displayed (without any comm cables connected to the EZTouch)? With your laptop connected to the EZTouch "COM1 " port, are you able to read "information " from the EZTouch and transfer programs to the EZTouch? With the EZTouch "PLC " port connected to the PLC, does the EZTouch display the correct information from the PLC (with no time-out errors)? Knowing which port is not communicating, we'll know which port settings and/or cables to check.

Yes, there was a difference in the parity for the comms. Weird that it happened, wish I knew why. Thank You for the responses.
