C-More to PLC cable

My screen is 40 feet from the PLC and the AD RS232 cables are not long enough. If I made my own cable what do I need to be aware of? Is there a problem with putting connectors inline? I'm having problems finding info on this. Thanks.

Noise mainly. One straight run of shielded cable suitable for RS-232. I would not put connectors inline unless it was absolutely necessary.
You might want to go with RS-422 or RS-485 for better noise immunity, but you might have to add a FA-ISOCON if your PLC port does not support these wiring standards. Again, you will need to use wire suitable for the wiring standard that you choose to go sith.

My PLC is a 205 with the 250 CPU so 422 is possible, does this help with connections or is that still a bad idea?

I would go with the 4 wire 422. I 've done that dozens of times around molding and servo equipment , running through industrial style connectors and never had a problem. However, you need to use the proper cable (I use Belden 9729) and make sure to pay close attention to the shielding. I would also recommend the AD breakout box. The High density D-Shell is a bear to wire 422.
