Is anyone or AD into the function blocks and IEC 61131-3 Programming? Would be nice to be able to make a function block and use it in another PLC. AD has their iboxes. What seems to be happening are companies like Turk making programable I/O, do not need a plc,. You can use ladder logic, basic or other languages to program it. You can create function blocks and share them in other equipment running ladder, basic or other languages. Just like iboxes function blocks are code within a block for repeated programming. HMI panels are out now with the PLC built in and different languages can be used to program. Things are really changing. I would hate to see AD become like Allen-Bradley with proprietary equipment. Would be beneficial to be able to use program language in all equipment.

i'm glad you brought this up. i feel that is more true with the cmores then with the plc's. the plc's are older and run on old programs, however the cmores are new and run on windows ce which the a new release came out a few months ago. this allows the cmore to be programmed using more then just the cmore software, or so i would assume. it seems like the cmore is locked down to protect us from ourselves, but it really limits what i might be able to with this nice piece of hardware. i am now looking towards panel pc's to do the data logging, reporting, vision, and even rfid scanning. i'm not there yet, but i know i can't use the cmore like i had hoped i could.

If they could implement 6-1131 w/ the speedy Directsoft interface that would be just fantastic. The only other 6-1131 capable packages I 've used are Panasonic's which is not that great to write with and IFM Effectors ASI based 'PLC ' which is just about the worst hardware / software I 've seen to date. Words cannot describe how horrible it really is.
