Using C-More 15 " monitor, AB SLC5/05 PLC. Periodically get a "PLC Timeout " error message in top left corner of display. Is this some sort of "scanner overrun "? Where does the message originate and what can I do to prevent it? It doesn't seem to have any effect on the operation of the display, and I don't see any problems with datalogging, trends, or displaying objects but my manager and the end user don't like to see unexplained error messages. I have increased the communications timeout to 255.

You might have a bit of communications or power supply noise at some particular point in your process. Make sure that the C-more is running on it's own dedicated supply of at least 1.5 amps.

I am using the Automation Direct serial cable to a DigiOne IAP protocol converter that is connected to an AB SLC5/05 via ethernet. The C-More is powered by an Idec PS5R-D24 2.1A power supply with nothing else on it. Everthing is in one cabinet.

This will certainly introduce delay into the signal. Since Ethernet isn't deterministic it might be why this is happening "every once in a while. "
Is the Ethernet cable connected directly to the DigiOne (crossover cable) or is it through a hub/switch?
One other thing that might pertain, is the C-more grounded at the same point the DigiOne is?

The ethernet cable is connected through a Hirschmann 5-port hub. Everything is grounded to the same point.

The timeout is generated by the C-more.
Is there anything else connected to the hub? If so, this might be the cause of the occasional error. If you are using the Ethernet port for other communciations, you might be exceeding the timeout on the serial link while the Ethernet port is busy servicing the other application(s).

Thanks, I'll check that out. I wasn't thinking about it that way. I am going to disconnect the laptop, etc from the hub and see how it goes.
