I thought that I saw this in an older post but can not find it now. Here is the situation. Customer has ez-touch 10 " for three years no problems.Friday Screen goes dead back light bulb burned out for no apparent reason.Replace with new screen. Two days later backlight bulb burned out.Anyone ran into this problem before I have to replace another on in two days. Oh yeah the power supply for the screen is the 150 watt 24 volt power supply and the only other thing that it powers is two thermocouple cards.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem two month ago with a 6 " eztouch that has been working for a little more than a year. Yesterday I had the same problem with another eztouch in a different location. I tried to buy a spare back light but Automationdirect does not sell it, they told me to contact the manufacturer AVG. I contacted them and they do not sell the back light either, they said that I have to send them the eztouch so they replace the lamp and it will cost me (not including freight) more than $200. I am an integrator located in Venezuela, if I add the freight the cost will be about the same as buying a new 6 " eztouch.
15 days ago I had a problem with another eztouch, this time was the ribbon cable that connects the touch panel with the electronic board. I took the back light from this eztouch and installed it on the eztouch that had the burn out lamp and it worked fine. It only took me 15 minutes to replace it. It is incredible that there is not way to buy a spare lamp.

If you can get the backlight out of the panel, why not check with Digi-Key or Newark Electronics, or somebody like that to see if they can get you a replacemt?

Lundell, did you find a back light replacement for you Eztouch?. I tried Newark and Digi-Key without luck. Like you I have two eztouch with burned back ligth. Looks like we are the only ones with this problem so far.
Could anybody from Automationdirect give us some comments about it?.

I have not had any luck with the bulbs. AVG the manufacturerof the screen said it would probably be $800 dollars to replace it if I sent it to them. I had ordered one new replacement screen since one was still under warranty. I was more concerned with what could cause the bulbs to burnout or maybe its their power supply either way I just did not want to keep burning out bulbs when I was 2000 miles from home. It may just have been a fluke since the new screen has lasted for a week so far.

If you are using a regulated power supply it would be hard for a fluke to cause the bulb to burn out. I would think is was a defective bulb.
Just to let everybody knows, I have done some research on the backlight, it operating life time is 25,000 hours, which is 2.8 years if the panel is on all the time. I belive the panel is being on the market for a little more than 2 years. Soon this is going to be a common problem for long time eztouch user.
For the 6 " eztouch, the color LCD display is a Sharp LM057QC1T01 and the backlight is a CCFT type.
I am still looking for someone who sells the backlight.

The 8 " EZ-S8C-F Uses a Hitachi SX21V001-Z4 LCD.
The Bulb is integrated into the LCD panel and would be very difficult to service, though not imposible. What struck me was that this panel had more than enough room to have used an LED matrix to backlight instead of the bulb. It sure would have lasted longer.
This is definatly an OUCH for AD.
most other Touch panels have easily replacable back lights. http://forum1.automationdirect.com/board/frown.gif

We 've got the same problem here with some 8 " models. http://forum1.automationdirect.com/board/mad.gif
We just repaired one at about $250 and another is out being repaired now.
Now we 're using the screen saver function on all of our panels. http://forum1.automationdirect.com/board/rolleyes.gif
Repairability is definitely going to be needed in the future.

The repair cost is so high because they replace the entire LCD! I have priced the hitachi screen from many vendors (Its quite a common 640X480 LCD) and they can be had fairly cheap so I'm looking at buying a few for spares to repair ours when they go out.
Just do a search for the Hitachi part number you will find lots of hits.
Ive contacted www.earthlcd.com about these screens to see what they can do.
I'm looking at offering a after warrenty repair service for these.

For de 6 " estouch the bulb is relatively easy to replace, but it is imposible to find it in the market. I bet it will very easy for Automationdirect to get it and sell it as an spare part. In a near future there are going to be many request for those parts and people will very disappointed when they find out that they have to pay $250,00 + shipping to have it repair.
