I'm looking for a small 3 digit numeric LED display that can be driven by a DL06. An earlier post mentioned displays from Adaptive Microsystems, but these are too large. There are various LCD displays, but they just aren't as visible as an LED display. Right now, I am using a LED digital panel voltmeter driven by analog output from the DL06. There's got to be an all digital answer! Anybody have an suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    donchin,

We have looked into this also. We finally wound up using the DV-1000, which is working out perfectly. Using 7-segment LED displays, or even using displays with BCD inputs uses way too many PLC outputs. Newark Electronics (www.newark.com) carries a number of these units and also Red Lion Controls (www.redlion-controls.com) and others. The displays with ASCII input were 2-3 times the cost of the DV-1000. Another option you could look at would be a rate display panel meter that uses frequency input. This would require a DC output and some programming. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. You 're right, going directly to the seven segment output is a lot of I/O, not to mention a lot of wires. The DV-1000 does look like a very nice device and quite inexpensive. I looked at a couple of these displays before: the LCD display just isn't as visible as an LED. I think they are pretty good if you 're a few feet away, but not more than 5 to 6 feet, unless you 've got really good eyes. We need to accomodate a wide range of users in a slightly dimmed environment.

I 've just came across the RD4/6 displays from Newport:

These are also sold by Omega:

Has anyone used these before with a PLC? The manual is pretty scant, but it looks like it accepts ASCII over RS-485. The DL06 is good at outputting ASCII, isn't it?
