Using a Stellar SR22-12 for a single phase motor. Can it be done?
I have a Stellar SR22-12 that I was under the impression could be wired up for use on a single phase motor. However when I wire it up it trips almost immediately. I'm starting to think that it can not be done. Has anyone successfully done this?

SR22 soft starters are designed for reduced-voltage start/stop control of 3-phase AC induction motors.
I would not do this.

At this time, the SR22 is only available for use with three phase. Check back in the future as we are always striving to update the features of our products.
The only controller I know of that sort of works with certain types of single phase motors is made by Invertek.

I used one on an exhaust fan and found I could not run it below around 45Hz successfully without overcurrent trips. We did the trial to avoid having to modify the fan which was difficult to reach. It did control the ramp up reasonably well all things considered, but does not compare at all with the speed control that you can get with a 3 phase motor.
I believe I have read that Schneider now makes a single phase VFD with similar limitations.
