5Vdc sensors with P1AM-100?

How do we use any of the existing sensors that are 5vdc powered? Is that possible building a Proto board?

    Is it a sensor that uses SPI or some other communication?

    If so you'll need something to shift levels. Depending on your other device and speeds this can be as simple as a few resistor dividers up to a high performance level shifter IC.

     

    If is a sensor that gives you a 1 or 0 to indicate state a resistor divider would be the simplest solution for most cases.

     

    You can do all of this on the Proto board no problem.

    The 5V pin is a 5V output supply pin which can be used to power the sensors. Assuming the sensors are 5V logic you will also need logic level shifters to convert the 3.3V signals from the P1am-100 to 5V signals for the sensors.

     

    If you don't mind me asking, what sensors are you planning to use?

    I am looking to use the DHT11 humiture and capacitive moisture sensors. I'd also like to use an I2C LCD.

    Thanks guys! I guess I should have done more reading.. those adafruit data sheets are great kewakl, I hadn't seen those yet. I'll do some reading on logic level shifters for future in case of need, I am an industrial PLC programmer by trade but these Auto Direct units being industrialized are going to scratch a large itch for me.

    look at sparkfun for some logic level shifters. Be nice. If you swipe some info from their FREE docs, buy something so that they can continue to provide this service.

    I have used a circuit from one of their retired items for RS-232 comms - with success.

    You are looking for 5-3v3 shifting. I think you should find some there.

     

    iirc, i used this one a little. other than it works, I cannot remember anything else about it.
