Bug in Productivity tag creation window

Im not sure how far back this goes or if this is only a problem on the latest Productivity version available for download. Just looked and it is running V4.6.2.2

When I have the Tag Database window open on the main screen it functions fine and I can create new tags. When I press the Add Tag button a new window opens.

If the Tag Database window is on a secondary screen however, pressing Add Tag causes the program to freeze. No window opens and Productivity is unresponsive.

I have attempted this multiple times with the same behavior each time and between reboots, and verified the window position on either screen does not matter. I must open Task manager and force kill the program to close it and then I can reopen the program fine.

I have taken two screenshots showing one where the window opens fine and another where the program is locked up, as well as made a short video showing one of the tests I did. In the video you can see the button actually press in the first time I click on it while on the secondary screen, and then all future clicks do not do anything and just produce an error sound in Windows

System is an Asus laptop running Windows 11 Pro v25H2.

I was unable to reproduce the issue you reported in version 4.6.2.2. If you'd like to share your project via private message, I'd be happy to investigate further on my end.

Does pressing [ESCAPE] dismiss the 'Add Tags' window that you cannot see?

Maybe the 'Add Tags' dialog is not coming to the front.

    I cannot replicate this V4.6.2.2.

You are correct, if I hit escape the missing window does close and the program becomes responsive again.

Another thing I have tried is slowly moving the Tag Database window from screen 1 to screen 2, opening the Add Tag window every 1/16" or so of moving to a new location.

The Add Tag window opens on the main screen in the center of the Tag Database window right up until 51% of the Tag Database window is shifted on to screen 2. At that point it will fail to open/become hidden. If I have the Tag Database window 49% on screen 1 it still opens/shows the Add Tag window, and even opens part of the window on screen 2.

Thank you, I will zip it up and message it to you. Since Kewakl also was unable to reproduce this, I am thinking it may be a problem specific to this Asus laptop and the way they manage the second screen.

The reason I thought this was a bug specific to the Tag Database window is that if I move the Hardware window onto screen 2 I can double click on a module and it will open a new window on screen 2 just fine.

It seems to be only the Tag Database that fails to open a window/and or specific to the Add Tag button. I tried the Help button within the Tag Database window and it does open the Help window successfully, just on screen 1 instead. Which doesn't matter to me, but as Help opens fine and Add Tag fails it seemed like a bug.

      Edit: sent PM.

Edit again: I am getting more and more convinced this is an Asus laptop specific bug. They have special software/driver that manages the secondary display and I have noticed a few things of jankiness with some coordinates before relating specifically to the second screen. Since Esc works to close the missing Add Tag window and get me back into Productivity, it is clear that the window is being opened I just cannot see it. My thought is that for some strange reason, the Add Tag window is not receiving or understanding the proper coordinates it is supposed to open on, and is opening somewhere just off the screen completely. If the screens were managed by the Windows 11 default management system (graphics drivers?) I doubt I would have this problem, but whatever special software Asus has managing things seems to be buggy.

As some examples of the janky behavior I have seen, it is things like windows opening in different places than they were last at after a reboot. Or drop downs in programs not opening under the selection but off to one side or the other. Example:

Does the screen arrangement (side to side/over-under) make any difference?

      • PouchesInc (Customer)

That is a good idea to play around with and see if things change. I just tried moving the layout around and this laptop wont let me. Anytime I hit apply the screens flash a couple times and then it reverts to default layout with screen 2 on the bottom. So the Asus driver is forcing it to be this layout as well.

This is just a work-around, but...

Try Alt+Tab to cycle through any/all the app windows and see if it shows up. If it's a windows z-order issue, doing that may bring it to the front.

Yep, I had thought along the same lines. I had tried alt+tab thinking I could possibly get the window but sadly that did not solve it. All the additional windows that open as parts of Productivity are not classified as actual windows or programs to cycle between, it only shows up in alt+tab as a single Productivity window instance. Cycling to another window/program like CMore and then back to Productivity resulted in the Add Tag window still being hidden/missing and Productivity still frozen.
