JasonO (Customer) asked a question.
We build control panels for mobile machines, and currently use Stridelinx 4G VPN (SE-SL3011-4GG) Routers, which I believe are rebranded ixRouter3s from Ixon.
We need to add functionality to our machines, to allow them to pull production orders from an ERP REST API, buffering that data in a database when cellular connection is lost, and communicating the production orders to the machine's PLC as needed by the operator (likely via OPC UA). We also need to post production data back to the API. Essentially we need a middleware edge gateway.
I've considered just adding a separate edge gateway device, like some kind of industrial Rasberry Pi, or switching to a different brand of VPN router that includes the capability to run Python or Node-Red (such as InHand IG902). But it looks like the Ixon SecureEdge Pro would likely do everything we need, besides providing the 4G connectivity and security and VPN access that we currently use the Stridelinx for. It could replace the current VPN router that we use, plus add the functionality we need. I'm wondering, is there any way that we could buy SecureEdge Pro devices, whether through AutomationDirect or otherwise, and manage them on the same Stridelinx cloud management account that we already have all our Stridelinx routers on? If there is any way to do that it would be extremely valuable to us, versus having a separate management platform. We already have about 50 of the Stridelinx routers deployed.
Or do you have other recommendations for accomplishing the edge computing we need? I can provide more details on the application and requirements if needed.
You won't be able to migrate devices between the accounts. There's no apparant technical reason, just commercial.
They'll use the same client and everything but you'll have to maintain two separate accounts.
Curious why you wouldn't let the SecureEdge also provide the cellular connection and VPN access?
