StanLee (Customer) asked a question.
I cannot get C-more 6.8 to communicate with my EA9 hmi with my Dell laptop running Windows 11.
I’ve been on the phone with tech support twice and we just can’t figure it out.
Antivirus is disabled.
Added the rules to Windows Defender.
C-more EA9 shows up under network adapters.
Program is ran as Administrator.
Windows Defender turned off.
Numerous uninstall and reinstall program.
Using a AD USB cable.
The funny thing is that if I run the C-more software 8.25 for CM5 panels, and connect a CM5 panel, everything works.
Also, I have the exact same laptop at work, the only difference is that my laptop does not have an Ethernet port.
My work laptop has an Ethernet port, even though I don’t use it for programming. C-more 6.8 works fine on that laptop.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
If you got notified about a previous post answering this, I apologize. I started yesterday on an EA9 saw the problem but switched to a CM5 today and what do you know, the problem went away.
I am seeing the same issue with EA9 and v6.80. I have not been able to resolve it. Stay tuned.
Ok, I followed the same process for EA9 and it worked. So here you go.
It looks like you did all the right thinks to try to fix this.
I was testing this and found I had the exact same issue which baffled me because I thought it had been working. I am using a Surface laptop.
Here is what I did to get it working:
I think the reboot was the trick for me.
Hope this helps.
Merry Christmas
Thank you for your suggestion. I tried it but it didn’t work.
i did however figure it out.
i should have mentioned that i had Norton 360 installed on my laptop. When I was trying to figure things out, i called Norton and they totally disabled Norton 360 on my computer. They assured me that Norton was not causing the issue. However, once I uninstalled Norton 360, everything worked fine. So even though Norton was disabled, it was somehow preventing communication with my EA9 panel via USB.
One of the guys in AD tech support suggested AVG antivirus so last night I downloaded and installed it.
And guess what, I lost communication again! I checked all the firewall settings in AVG and they were correct.
So I called AVG tech support, and they took control of my computer and disabled AVG, but it still didn’t work.
They really had no answer.
So I uninstalled AVG and everything works fine.
Needless to say I’m frustrated.
i need AV software on my laptop.
i just don’t get it.
Again though, thank you very much for your response and suggestions.
Thank you for updating us. I have AVG Internet Security at home. I will give it a try there.
Just a side note: When contacting AVG or anyone who will want to take control of your PC, make sure you look up their phone on their website.
I have a relative that went through the support chat that is in the AVG application a couple of months ago. The chat was apparently compromised, and he got directed to a fake phone number. All said and done, he le them have control of his PC and he was one step away from losing $14K from his bank account when he realized what was happening. Scammers are everywhere.
Wow, I never thought of that with tech support. Thank you!
For the past ten years or so (since AVG started the nagware campaign) I have been using Windows Defender with good success and it doesn't seem to interfere with new software installations.
I dropped AVG when they ignored their own 'exception list.'
I had some helper app that AVG would quarantine. I put it in the exception list only to find it quarantined --- again and again.
My solution was to go with Webroot AV. I used it years ago without any issues and probably should have stayed with it. Anyway, everything is working fine now.
For some reason Norton and AVG didn’t like the Cmore software. I truly believe it had something to do with the fact that the EA9 panel shows up as a network adapter. On my laptop and in Norton and AVG it was called an “unidentified network”.
One other word of caution, I found that I lose communication between the EA9 and computer if the VPN is turned on (using Webroot AV). This may happen with other VPN’s.
