Robotics and Automation (Customer) asked a question.
I am trying to get a Productivity 1000 PLC to be a scanner for a Fanuc R30i and the PLC will not send any network data as verified by packet sniffing with Wireshark. How do I get the scanner to start sending network data?
Here is where we are.
- Obtained the .EDS from the Fanuc by doing a backup.
- Created the Scanner in Pro Suite
- Verified all network connections with PING. PLC, Fanuc, HMI are all online.
- Tried to manually start the scanner.
My understanding is that the scanner automatically runs in the background on the PLC. I am clearly missing something, how do I get the scanner to start and send data to the Fanuc?
I've been beating my head against the wall for a while am I am hoping someone here can help. I am a teacher building a workcell with High School kids. We have the HMI going, Fanuc programs going, but can not get the PLC and Fanuc to communicate. Unfortunately, AB is not an option and we need to use the Productivity line. Thank you.
Your Data View window isn't configured to automatically send edits, so you'll have to do that manually. Select fanuc_structure.Msg1Enable and click 'Send Edits' (the second button from the left in Data View). That should enable the scanner message.
Like this? I did the Msg1Enable and clicked "Send Edits", still nothing.
The PLC Is talking with the HMI just fine but won't talk to Fanuc.
Any other ideas? I really appreciate it.
Silly question, but is the PLC in run mode?
Not a silly question at all. I was actually about to ask the same thing when I saw your post. There have been more times than Id like to admit where something either kicked the PLC into stop and I didn't realize or I bumped the switch on the PLC when checking a wire and It takes me a "few minutes" of scratching my head trying to figure out why something isn't working when I know it should only to realize the PLC isn't in run.
Yes, the PLC is in run mode and online
Can you open the configuration dialog for the Fanuc EtherNet/IP device in Productivity Suite and attach a screenshot here?
MST-0.0.0.1 ad MST-0.0.0.2 are serial port status bits. How do they enter into your Ethernet comms procedure?
Do you mean to use MST-0.0.0.65, 66, 67
If you have a working Project from Productivity Suite would you be willing to share the file?
We do not have an Ethernet/IP -- PAC<->R30 project. If I had one, I would have shared.💯
We did have a Modbus/TCP -- PAC<->R30 project.
We have decommissioned the project and donated(*) two R30 bots to the VoTech wing of the local school district.
(*) I think that 'donated' would be the correct word. However, I do not know the details of the transfer. I hope that we also transferred the 'registration/ownership according to Fanuc' to the school also.
