Viewmarq Write Instruction ethernet comm glitch with P1-550

Just an FYI. I just had an odd comm timeout glitch.

I have a viewmarq hooked up via ethernet to a P-550 and the viewmarq stop updating. Usually when this happens I also can't connect to the marqee with the viewmarq software. A power cycle fixes it.

I haven't been overly concerned about it because I'm waiting on a new network switch. The powers that be decided they wanted to handle getting a replacement and I still don't have one. Plus it's final home is modbus anyways. It's much cooler in my office so it's on Ethernet in the interim.

This time it didn't start updating after cycling power. I was able to connect to the marqee on the network with the viewmarq software and reboot it. Which, also didn't help.

When I connected to the P1-550 the write instruction was timing out. I had to reboot the PLC to get it to start communicating again.

So I could connect to both the Viewmarq and P550 on the network but they didn't want to talk to each other.

If the new network switch doesn't fix your issue then I would recommend contacting our technical support team and be ready to send in both your viewmarq and productivity projects. You can reach out to them by filling out contact support form from the community or give them a call at 1-800-633-0405.

In the manual in section 6-5 through 6-6 do you have display syntax error selected?

It is just a guess but maybe there is a syntax error that somehow got in and the message needed resent from the beginning.

    • The VMW instruction does have to be restarted. The marqee didn't show a ASCII syntax error.

      Thanks for the suggestion.

I won't see it again once I put it back on the Modbus network. Unless someone wants to send me a complimentary ViewMarq (4 x 24) .......

Then I'd be more then willing to hook it up via the Ethernet and see if it ever comes back. 😉

Do you see the issue if you bypass the switch and connect the Viewmarq directly to the P1-550? ( basically bypass the switch to eliminate it)

    • I don't have a great way to connect them point to point. I might be able to plug the ViewMarq and the Stride switch the P1-550 is on directly into the modem though. That would take the failing main switch out of the equation. I'll take a look when I get to the plant.
