I have the need to write a program for an unwind and rewind speed control. The unwind and rewind are powered with black max motors and GS2 ac drive and I have a dancer with a pot to control rewind diameter. Does anybody has done something like that before? I am unsure of how tackle this one.

I haven't done a winder project yet, but I have done several web process for loop control and I used an Ultrasonic Analog sensor for feedback. I actually converted my analog signal (input card) to digital (from a CTRIO) and ran stepper drives. Maybe you could have an ultrasonic sense your roll dia. to keep tension/speed accurate with your dancer as your trim? Just make sure you used the correct ultrasonic if you try this however.

I have done this with a five motor system.

One motor needs to be the lead the others need to be followers. Supply the follower motors a speed reference from the lead. Use your dance arm to bias the speeds of the others. In my application I used a light curtain that provided a +-10 vdc as the bias. One motor was the lead and set the speed for the line. The others followed this motor and used the light curtains to bias their speed. If the loops were in the middle no bias voltage was supplied. As the loop dropped the follower motor would speed up. As the loop got higher the follower motor would slow down. I can provide the code if you like it is around 60 rungs.

What speeds and tension are you going to be running?

The running speed is between 30 to 60 fpm the tension is close to zero.

I work on a lot of rewinders, but all are high tension, high speed, paper winders. I use another brand of AC drive which has the winder funtions built in. Even has taper tension. Makes it easy. I am iterested in what you are doing and if I can help let me know.
