Unstable pc connection to dl05

I'm having problems keeping a connection to a dl05, I'm using the AD USB to 232 adaptor. I can keep a connection for about 2 minutes, them it dies.... Any ideas? I'm using a Mac book, running windows 7 in a virtual machine. It's worked fine for a year now. I did have this plc setup to do field io out of the secondary com port. And had to play with the com setting a bit to get that to work. Could that have done something to it? Please help
