H2-ECOM Won't Use TCP/IP

I have an H2-ECOM that won't show up in NetEdit (latest version) when using TCP/IP. I can't even create a link for it unless using IPX. I can ping it and get a response, though. I would just use IPX, but I would like to put the PLC on the internet. A friend of mine and I will be developing some software and need this setup to work. http://forum1.automationdirect.com/board/smile.gif I 've already used NetEdit to restore factory settings. Thank you, Chris

    What is your PC's (the PC you are using NetEdit on) IP address and Subnet mask?

    What is your H2-ECOM's IP address and subnet mask?

    Does your computer have multiple network cards?

    I recall having an issue when there was more than on active network card on my computer. I t was a while ago, but it seems that when I disabled the non relevant NIC, I was then able to see the ECOM using NetEdit-> TCP/IP.

    I'm pretty sure that you will need an ECOM-100 for what you want to do. The original ECOM has no way to send a directed packet through a gateway and you 're going to need to do that if you want to have it work across a router (or 20) which you will be doing when you connect to the net.

    My computer only has one NIC. I setup my router at home to forward port 28784 to my ECOM, and I was able to connect to it just fine from work today. It was a little slow, but it worked. http://forum1.automationdirect.com/board/smile.gif

    hanziou, usually a better solution than disabling a NIC (because no one likes to remember they have a NIC disabled and re-enable it manually when they need it), is to reprioritize your NICs. Oftentimes, Winsock has priority on the wireless NIC. You can change the priority by:

    If you have WinXP:

    (1) Start --> Control Panel.

    (2) Double-click on the "Network Connections " icon.

    (3) On the menu at the top, select Advanced --> Advanced Settings...

    (4) On the "Adapters and Bindings " tab, in the top window, select the connection you are using.

    (5) Use the green arrows at the right to move this connection to the top of the list.

    (6) Press OK and close Network Connections window.

    (7) You may have to reboot your PC.

    If you have WinVista:

    (1) Start --> Control Panel.

    (2) Double-click on the "Network & Sharing Center " icon.

    (3) At the left of this window, click on "Manage network connections "

    (4) Press the ALT key to make a menu appear at the top of this window.

    (5) On the menu at the top, select Advanced --> Advanced Settings...

    (6) On the "Adapters and Bindings " tab, in the top window, select the connection you are using.

    (7) Use the green arrows at the right to move this connection to the top of the list.

    (8) Press OK and close Network Connections window.

    (9) You may have to reboot your PC.

    Hope this helps!

    Well, I only have one NIC in my computer, but I forgot that I used to have a Bluetooth USB adapter plugged into my machine as well. I disabled the drivers for the adapter and everything works great now! http://forum1.automationdirect.com/board/smile.gif

    That said, Greg's solution is better than going through the hassle of disabling and re-enabling NICs, particularly when you may want to have Bluetooth adapters operational 100% of the time.

    Have fun!
