PLC Programmers for Hire?

Any advice on a place to find programmers for hire?

I have simple project's I want to get done.

I wish I could do things myself but I just don't have that kind of time now to start learning something new.

    Hello Vipergfx

Just a couple of pointers before hiring an integrator.

    • Make sure you get some references or see some past work.
    • Make sure that the PLC program will be well documented. It should read like a book.
    • Make sure you own the rights to the program.
    • Non disclosure agreements may be required,
    • Provide as much detail as possible for the project. List of inputs and outputs, sequence of operation, mechanical and/or electrical drawings, etc. The more information provided the less time for the programmer to try and collect.
    • Make sure you specify a time line and exact budget.

I hope this helps you out or gives you some additional information.

    Regards,

    Garry

I agree with Gary the only thing I would add is local support for troubleshooting problems and needed changes/updates may be important also. We get a lot of work because we are local and can service an entire system (mechanical, electrical, engineering, design and troubleshooting). Most of the time we can make the changes or repair the problem for what the transportation cost of the OEM or the out of state integrator would be. VPN works well but sometimes you need to be there.

Are you looking for on site programming, or just a developed program that you will install and debug? If on site, where are you located?

Let me add to Garry's post...Drawings...Be sure they can create drawings...Did I mention drawings? Kind of hard to trouble shoot future problems without drawings. Also, a manual. We make our programmers learn AutoCAD and write manuals. They hate writing the manuals. Also, don't forget the drawings.

I got in touch with a local tech college near me and found someone who could help out part-time—worked out great and didn’t break the bank. If you're also trying to grow your hiring or HR knowledge, I looked into how to join SHRM and found some decent resources for managing small teams and finding contract folks.
